Typha Inc. was created in response to a growing gap in the housing system — where people with the highest need are often the least effectively supported.

We saw a system that focuses heavily on property, but not enough on people. Too often, individuals and families are placed into housing without the structure, guidance, or stability needed to sustain a tenancy long term. The result is a cycle of repeat homelessness, tenancy breakdowns, and increasing pressure on already stretched services.

Typha exists to do things differently.

Founded by housing professionals with deep, frontline experience in tenancy management and social housing operations, Typha is built on a simple belief: housing alone is not enough — sustainable tenancies require capability, consistency, and accountability.

Our approach combines strong tenancy management with practical, real-world support. We focus on building tenant capability, setting clear expectations, and creating environments where people can succeed — not just be housed.

The name “Typha” reflects this philosophy. Typha, commonly known as bulrush or cumbungi, is a resilient plant that thrives in challenging environments and plays a vital role in restoring balance to ecosystems. In the same way, Typha works within complex housing systems to stabilise, support, and create lasting outcomes for individuals, communities, and partners.
